Past Projects
We celebrate our past work with gratitude and admiration.

CHORAL MUSIC
The Volunteer League of the San Fernando Valley's Choral Music project began in 1963. The Troupers' first performance was singing carols at the Pacific Boys Lodge, led by Bee Jay Brown. They continued to sing at convalescent and retirement homes throughout the San Fernando Valley. In 1985, the Troupers performed the Star-Spangled Banner at Dodger Stadium, and it was repeated in 1987.
The project celebrated and concluded 61 years of service to the Community during the 2023-24 season. The Troupers have entertained seniors at thousands of assisted living, Alzheimer's, nursing, and senior residential facilities. The group performed a 30-minute program for those confined indoors who could not attend live musical performances. The program included popular show tunes, patriotic songs, and standards. Rehearsals began once a week in September and continued through December. January was set aside for performances, with up to 10 performances a week.
The group was comprised of League members and community volunteers who generously gave their time to benefit others. Beth Crofoot, who has been the Choral Music Trooper’s Chairperson for the last eight years, navigated the challenges of returning to senior facilities after the pandemic.
The Volunteer League is very proud of Choral Music's enormous impact on many seniors in our community over the years.
We thank all the past and present Troupers who have performed with Choral Music for their dedication and service to the community. We also thank our generous supporters for making one of our most endearing projects go on for 61 years.
NANCY HOOKER SCHOLARSHIP
Nancy Hooker, a Volunteer League member, was a devoted community volunteer with a passion for music who fostered many students in vocal music. Through this scholarship, Nancy has touched many college students in their music studies. The Nancy Hooker Memorial Foundation Scholarship at CSUN has been awarded to 39 worthy recipients over the last 35 years. The year 2022 marks the end of this beautiful tribute to Nancy, donated and created by her family and friends. The Volunteer League thanks everyone involved in all the processes carried out over the years for the scholarship.
The final recipient was Jeryd Word, a third tenor studying vocal performance and planning to join the music education program. His goal is to receive a graduate degree in voice, join a young artists program, and end his performing career as a professor of voice at a university. He is with the Northridge Singers and is performing opera in many areas.
