Since 1973, the Centre Clothes Corner, the Volunteer League's most significant ongoing project, has been dedicated to providing essential clothing assistance to underserved and crisis-affected school-age children. Our mission is to positively impact children's lives by supplying them with the school clothing they need to attend school with dignity and confidence. This project has made a significant difference in the lives of these children, allowing them to focus on their education without the added stress of not having appropriate clothing.

 

The Volunteer League is currently the only non-profit providing free clothing assistance to LAUSD students from kindergarten through 12th grade.  Children are referred to us by public school counselors, social service counselors, and mental health agencies in the San Fernando Valley and the greater Los Angeles area.  Our volunteers carefully package our donation bags according to the sizing forms provided by the counselors, who pick up donations from our location and hand them to students at their schools.  Students do not have to miss school for fittings to get our donation.

Each year, Centre Clothes Corner clothes approximately over 3,000 students. We provide each child with brand-new school clothing, including uniforms, jackets, shoes, socks, underwear, personal care items, and a backpack with school supplies.  In today's climate, our assistance is more crucial than ever, especially since there are limited resources available for emergency clothing support to families facing financial hardship and homelessness.

The Volunteer League funds this project through generous donations from individuals, companies, and foundations, as well as grants.  We do not receive funding from United Way or local government sources.
