Nancy Hooker Scholarship

Nancy Hooker was a devoted community volunteer with a great sense of humor and a deep sense of caring.  She was a singer, conductor, musician, and director of musical theater; she was also an active member of the Volunteer League and conducted the Choral Music project that entertains seniors at assisted living and nursing homes with show tunes and standards from their past. Through the Nancy Hooker memorial scholarship, which was established in 1987 by her friends and family, Nancy continues to touch the lives of the young people in the community she loved so much.

Two scholarship awards were awarded this year.  The Nancy Hooker Memorial Scholarship goes to Marta Hovhannisyan.  Marta, a junior at the Choral Music Department of CSUN, is a lyric mezzo-soprano who loves teaching and hopes to build a music school one day to help young artists flourish.  An additional Volunteer League Career Advancement Award was given to a soprano voice, who also loves teaching, and is currently writing a curriculum for early childhood education.  The Volunteer League congratulates both of these promising and talented young women.
